02 - February letter

Cross Connections February 2020

Article
During 8:30 am Prayer and Communion time, we have been working our way through John Wesley's covenant service. This includes a prayer to rededicate ourselves to God and His purposes. As Christians, we covenant with God to be in relationship with Him, placing Christ first in our hearts, and following the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Yet, our journeys are hard. Sometimes we lose focus. We forget our original promise. That is why hard and difficult prayers like the Covenant Prayer are so important to reorder our hearts toward God. Below are the words to the prayer. We invite you to read over the words. Consider their meaning. Reflect on how God is calling you to respond. Pray the prayer. And then live it. You are always welcome to join us on Sunday mornings as we creatively work our way through the whole service bit by bit.

A Covenant Prayer in the Wesleyan Tradition
I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed by thee or laid aside by thee.
Exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
thou art mine, and I am thine.
So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
Let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.

It is the beginning of a 40 day journey of intensive formation and re-formation in the way of Jesus that lies ahead. We would love you for you to join us during this time of reflection, scripture, and prayer.
